First Union Welcomes Reverend Alvin T. Armstead, Jr.
Reverend Alvin T. Armstead, Jr.’s leadership as senior pastor of the congregation marks the beginning of a new cycle of spiritual and theological growth for the First Union family. He is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was licensed to preach the gospel in May 2003. He was ordained in 2005 by Reverend Dr. Dwight S. Riddick, Pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Newport News, Virginia.
Reverend Armstead is a 2010 honors graduate from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University where he received a Masters in Divinity, and he holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Christopher Newport University. He has been serving as the Pastor of Cypress Baptist Church in Surry County of the Hampton Roads region.
Vibrancy and progress earmark Reverend Armstead’s path, and we are looking forward to working with him. He has a heart for growing the congregation and serving the community through Christian love, pragmatic education, and communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He has implemented visionary programs for youth and young adults, and has demonstrated his concern also for seniors.
Reverend Armstead is married to Reverend Charla Armstead and is the proud father of two daughters, Aria and Alauna. We are happy to have them join our church family.
